Long Bay is a new subdivision with a number of unique and quite specific planning and design rules. Our client wanted to maximize development of the site while presenting a house with some interesting features to differentiate it from surrounding houses subject to the same rules.
A double gable form was developed which was likened to a pair of boatsheds. Additional features were added to give it character and interest, such as sets of bay windows were added to the front, breaking up the façade.
The main living space extended out into a sunny courtyard with a semicircular extension, drawing light into the house and partially enclosing the courtyard to create an “outdoor room.
