The driver behind this design was the intimate rural setting in a valley sloping down to a stream at the bottom of the garden.
A simple shed-like structure was developed, repeated twice over to encompass the space required for the clients’ design, while keeping the scale small enough to retain the intimate rural character.
This shed theme was carried through to the living areas inside the house, through the use of massive exposed natural timber trusses which provide an eye-catching feature against the soft neutrals with which the interior is finished.
The gabled ends of the sheds were opened out to accommodate the front entrance on one side of the house and outdoor living spaces on the other. This provided a great contrast between the rural earthy outdoors, and the quality finishes indoors, visible at the gable ends.Â
